Artist Statement:

When I’m creating, it completes me. It seems to me that God or Universal Life Force is always creating and doesn’t create anything that doesn’t continue the creating process. Thus, every unit of creation is adding to the whole. I recognize this creative process within myself . I believe this train of thought is relative to my work, in that you can view my abstract work as a whole, as well as relating to the detailed parts as individual personalities that emerge out of the paint.

My work is completely based on a meditative mind and intuitive action. As I feel the color palette I’m going to use on the current work, I am meditative and do not think. Some of my most extraordinary paintings are created through expressive emotion, when the mind

rests and isn’t involved in the creation process. The creation just IS. I really love working with color, both usage of complimentary and analogous color schemes, many times simultaneously. I particularly love hues of blue with green and a splash of red. I work often with the wet on wet knifing technique, that when applied, gives many variations of actual texture and organic shapes. I love knifing the color directly onto the canvas, picking up two or three colors on the way, swirling them on the canvas, where they mix but still leave individuality of each color, apparent to the viewer.

I love abstract expressionism because there are no two pieces the same. I couldn’t even duplicate my work by hand if I wanted to. It is its own life form. I was only the vessel in which it channeled the lifeforce through to its birth on canvas. When people see my work, I would like them to take the time to be in the moment and experience that life force. Breathe its essence in visually as a whole and then pay attention to the detailed parts of the whole and find what the painting is expressing to their objectivity.
